Outdoor Blinds Operation and Maintenance Guide

  • Always operate manual blinds from the centre: This ensures the material rolls evenly onto the top tube.
  • Supervise motorised blinds: Avoid operating them in high winds, as wind pressure makes it hard for the motor.
  • Operating in windy conditions: Use your hand to push against the blind material to reduce wind pressure before operating.
  • High winds (≥ 30 km/h): Leave blinds either fully retracted onto the top tube, or fully down and locked.
  • Extreme weather events: Manual blinds must be fully retracted onto the top tube.
  • Avoid rolling up when wet: Moisture (water or condensation) trapped inside can cause mould.

✅ Do's:

  • Use a soft cloth with soapy cold water.
  • Allow the blind to dry completely before rolling up.
  • Use VuPlex® for PVC blinds (clean gently to avoid scratches) and dry with a cloth for best results.
  • Remove bird droppings, dirt, or stains promptly.

❌ Don'ts:

  • Do NOT use full-strength detergents, cleaning fluids, soaps, insecticides, or garden sprays.
  • Do NOT use window cleaning detergents or allow petrochemicals/solvents to touch the surface.
  • Do NOT use a high-pressure hose.
  • Do NOT use bore water or let bore water sprinklers hit the blind.

Please note: In most cases, outdoor blinds do not need lubrication - only in very dusty environments.

✅ Use Food-grade silicone spray (e.g., CRC Food Grade Silicone Spray): Lower the blind fully. Apply spray in the groove between the spline tape and track (both left and right tracks, only one side of the blind). Lubricate the entire track height (approx. 10 seconds), then open and close several times to spread.

❌ Do NOT use Oil-based lubricants (e.g., WD-40): They will damage the spline tape and cause dust to clog inside the track.

  • Symptom: The bottom bar is not level when the blind is fully retracted and stored at the top.
  • Cause & Prevention: This is caused by operating the blind from one side repeatedly. Always operate from the centre. If you don't, the blind may retract unevenly onto the top tube.
